Cooking Liquid Measurement Conversions

Probably the most problematical conversions you are likely to come across in recipes are those involving liquids. If the recipe specifies litres or millilitres it isn't too difficult to understand that you need to convert this into your local pints and fluid ounces. The difficulty comes when you see a recipe that specifies pints or fluid ounces, as the US pint and fluid ounce are not the same as the UK Imperial pint and fluid ounce.

When the recipe specifies pints or fluid ounces you will need to identify where the recipe is from. If the recipe can be identified as US then the measures are in US pints and fluid ounces, if the recipe is from the UK or one of the British Commonwealth countries (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) then the recipe will use Imperial pints.
